Are the drugs to improve erection all the same?
Autore: Prof. A. Natali
Topic: Medical therapies in andrology
Since 1998, when Viagra © has been on the market, the industry has studied and tested other oral drugs to improve erection. This is how Cialis ©, Levitra ©, and lately Spedra ©, have been sold, all with different dosages. But although they all belong to the same pharmacological class, phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5-Is), these drugs have very different characteristics both in the mode of intake, in the duration of action and in the "curative" effect on Erectile Dysfunction. Therefore we must distinguish the short-acting PDE5-Is (3-6 hours) such as Viagra ©, Levitra © and Spedra © from long-acting Cialis © which has a longer duration of action (12-24 hours). This allowed Cialis © to find a dosage (5 mg) that can be used daily, for certain periods of time (3-6 months), even independently of sexual intercourse, as a rehabilitative aspect of penile microcirculation when this results to be deficient. Therefore, medical therapy of erectile dysfunction is currently a therapy that can be adapted to each patient, like a tailor-made dress (tailored therapy)
