Red wine and female sexual response

Effects, benefits and influence of red wine on female sexuality

Regarding female sexual response, Science tells us that moderate consumption of red wine, 1–2 glasses per day, is associated with an improvement in sexual satisfaction, expressed as increased desire and willingness to have sex, better and more effective vaginal lubrication, as well as greater orgasmic intensity and post-coital pleasure.

All of this compared to women of the same age and social condition defined as abstainers or occasional drinkers (less than 1 glass of wine per day).

Here too, as in men, the beneficial effects of red wine on female sexuality are mainly linked to polyphenols, due to their ability to improve vaginal and clitoral microcirculation, associated with their cholesterol-lowering effect and reduction of platelet aggregation.

However, alcohol in moderate doses, below 300 g per week, also has a beneficial effect on female sexual arousal. This is because it optimizes the level of physiological and neurovegetative activation of the Central Nervous System, leading to greater intensity of emotions and sensations in response to internal and external stimuli related to eroticism and sexuality.
